Oritsefemi Majemite, simply known as Oritse Femi took the music scene by storm when he released his hit tracks “Mercies of the Lord” and “Oleju” which enjoyed massive airplay and an evergreen status in the hearts of music lovers. Though he plays gospel,  there is so much of dance-hall infusion into it that it cannot be ignored by a wide spectrum of the society. In this encounter with WG, the Delta State-born Itsekiri Femi, born and bred in Ajegunle, bares all on his journey from the shanty settlements of Ajegunle to the limelight. Excerpts:
How have you been surviving ?
It’s hardwork and most especially, you must be prolific and realise you must change as your environment changes. Presently, Afro Hip-hop rules the music industry. For instance, if you are a Fuji musician, Reggae star or a rapper, you must infuse Afro into it because it is what rules the scene now. This Afro is generated from Fela Anikulapo Kuti. If you listen to Fela Music, he usually sings with our local pidgin English which they call commercial. So, you must infuse that commercial and Hip-hop in it. So, I keep including that in my music.
*Oritse Femi
But the most important thing is your own uniqueness. I try to rediscover my unique selling point so that anywhere I go, it will serve as my identity. And one of my most unique traits is my vocal, the way I sing and whenever I sing, people understand and identify that this is Oritsefemi. Meanwhile, I try my best and take my time to put out very unique lyrics. So, I infuse all these into my music and it has been working for me.
I make sure the content is beyond reasoning. Another thing that we, Ajegunle boys,  lack is publicity. Our guys have the mindset that they won’t play their music on radio but I keep asking them to try nonetheless. The industry is now highly competitive  so you have to promote your songs. I always try my possible best to meet up with that competition. So, that’s why I’m still relevant.
If you hadn’t hit the limelight would you have still remained in Ajegunle full time?
I will move to anywhere in the world. Like I said earlier on, the world is like a circle you must learn how to move around but ‘Aje’ is still my hood and I still have a belief in it.
What inspired ‘Mercies of Da Lord’ ?
I was born and brought up in the ways of the Lord but because of worldly things, I derailed. But my mum, who is highly religious and Godly, brought it back. There was a low time in my life when I felt so depressed but my mum with her inspiration woke the spirit of God back in me. I was so filled with the spirit to the extent I never thought possible.
So, that was how the inspiration came out. Actually, that song was the last song I did in my album, I was supposed to round up my album, I’ve already rounded up the album; I just need an intro into the album. But when the producer, Ben Droze heard the intro, he said what I just dropped can be a track, so we now completed it, making it a full track.
How was it like working with Pasuma ?
Yes ! Pasuma is a nice and humble artiste. When I walked up to him that I have a song and I would like him to feature in the song. Immediately I gave him a clue of the song, he said the song would be a hit. I swear that was what he said, so he put his own impact. We went to Clarence Peter’s Studio around his house.
Suspect was the engineer; I now brought my own producer which is M-Shine to come and produce the beats while Suspect took the vocal and because that place is so close to Pasuma’s place then, he came in to do his own part. After we finished the job, it was so smooth and fantastic. It was like a dream come through. Up till now, the song is still relevant because I still perform it on stage and I see people’s response to it.
Your memorable experience?
I think it was when I was in a group called, The Jingolist.  We released two albums. It was a joint project with my colleague, Chibudo. The first album was entitled, ‘Boys Dibinu’, that is, “Boys are not happy”. The second album was ‘Money Na Time’ and they had eight tracks each. Later I went solo and released an album, ‘Elewon’, which means “Chase them”.
That was when I started singing about the flopped politicians and the need to chase them away. It was released in 2007/08 during the elections and turned out to be a hit. My second solo album has just been dropped into the market entitled, ‘Unfadeables’. I was motivated to release this album because of the wickedness prevalent in the world. One of the hit tracks that is making waves on radio and TV is ‘Mercy of the Lord’.
It has a remix featuring the late Dagrin, Rhymzo and also my record label chairman, Shining. We have already shot the video and it would be out any moment from now. The ‘Unfadeables’ has fourteen tracks. It is going to redefine what the Oritse Femi people have been hearing about. Apart from the artistes I mentioned before, I’ve also featured in my works 2face, Pasuma Wonder, Nico Gravity, B Kleen and some other popular artistes in Nigeria. It is a ‘thank you’ album to my fans who have been urging me on. The fans have been there, saying that Oritse Femi cannot fade. That is why I titled the album, ‘Unfadeables’. It is a street lingo narrating how people neglected me when I was not known
As the only surviving musician doing this genre of music, what are you doing to support other ones?
Yeah! I’ve heard so much about that and what I believe is that, we are all players in one position or the other. For instance in a football match, we have everyone playing different wings, so everyone must be noticed in his or her own position. Even if I am playing the defence role, I will try my possible best to be noticed. So, that’s why I keep holding that place that I am.
*Oritse Femi
Already, I don’t want to mention names. But talking about Timaya, he is a good friend and right from time, Timaya has always seen me as a competitor. You know sometimes, someone can be your friend and still feels you are the only problem he has. The last time that I called him that we should do a song together, he said we are going to do it but he kept postponing it because he sees me as a threat. He doesn’t want a situation whereby people will be comparing us.  Timaya is a good artiste and he has his own energy and he keeps doing what he knows how to do best but to me, I don’t see him as a challenger. I can compete with any artiste in the world.
What was the first fee you got as an artiste?
My first money is small; N5million. And five million naira then is 50 million naira now.
How did you handle the excitement?
It was in cheque because the people that gave me the money knew I have never handled such amount before and they didn’t want to cause problem. When I saw the cheque, I was stupefied, speechless and continued staring at it as if it were a dream.  I wasn’t too sure but when I saw the money in front of the cashier men! I was like wow, and from there the inspiration rose and that should be around 2004/2005
Before then, what was the highest money you have ever acquired for yourself?
It was one hundred thousand naira (N100,000) and that hundred thousand naira, I used it to form big boy for more than one month because the hundred thousand naira was like a very big money to me then. You can’t blame me because I was born and brought up in the ghetto. And the hood that I came from ‘I don dey experience flood before Nigeria  dey get flood’ because then even the so called mosquito net cannot be enough for the population of people living in that area. We have more than 10 million people who will struggle to get it. So, if mosquito bites us, we see it as a way of life. So, you can’t blame me if I see hundred thousand naira and I over reacted.
How was your dream like after you collected the N5 million, judging from the kind of environment you were coming from?
Immediately I collected the money, my nightmare changed. ‘I dey dream say na Europe I dey’ because then I used to dream about OPC and Area boys  fighting.
Your latest single, Sagbene is presently rocking the air and people want to know what next , can you tell us what you are working on ?
My new single will be dropping any moment from now, it is titled ‘Double Wahala’ which basically talks about the problems in Nigeria. Even small children born today know Nigeria’s problem. Nigeria is filled with hardship; there is insecurity, unemployment and many others

Olamide-and-girlfriend-copy
Earlier today Linda Ikeji posted about Olamide on her blog saying:
All you Naija celebrity men know you can have sex (plenty of it sef) without getting any woman pregnant, right? Olamide has reportedly joined the growing list of celebs having kids outside marriage as his long-time girlfriend, Adebukunmi Aisha Suleiman, is said to be expecting a baby.
Bukunmi is the same girl he flaunts on his instagram page (though he recently deleted most of her pics from his page) and calls her the ‘love of his life’ and ‘boo from day one’. Congrats to them.

Interesting and exciting article published by Sun Newspapers on Nigerian celebrities who do not get along with each other but put on fake smiles for world peace.
Read and enjoy, by Samuel Olatunji
Genevieve Nnaji Vs Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde
Their rivalry is legendary. The cause of it no one can tell but what is obvious is that the two leading women in Nollywood are not the best of friends. As a matter of fact, they view each other with suspicion. A pal of both divas attributed the source of the hostility to Omotola who “did not in anyway encourage Genevieve when she was starting out”. Another accused Genevieve of “not according Omotola her due respect as someone she met in the industry”.
The pal, who like the two, is also an actress says: “Both of them dislike each other so much that they almost scuttled the set of the hugely popular movie, Ije.”
However, time and maturity have toned down the intensity of the hostility. But fans of the pair are still unrelenting as they continue to gun for each other’s jugular anytime the opportunity presents itself.
Davido Vs Wizkid
The battle of supremacy started a long time ago between Davido and Wizkid. Both musicians, who once enjoyed a smooth friendship before the rivalry started, recently went on twitter to exchange some pretty hard words.
According to Davido popularly known as OBO, Wizkid started it all when he threw shades at him via his twitter handle concerning his concert abroad. In a recent interview with Sahara Reporters, Davido said he has nothing against Wizkid, adding that he is a big fan of him but pleaded that Wizkid should stop throwing shades at him.
A few days after the interview, however, Wizkid took to his twitter handle and subtly called Davido “a dumb”, accusing him of misinterpreting his tweets and being insensitive – and “catching feelings”.
BasketMouth Vs Julius Agwu
The comedians have made up with each other but many describe their friendship as “mere cosmetic” since they still view each other with suspicion. The cause of their ‘fight’ is attributed to petty rivalry, which developed into a major ‘beef’. The two avoided each other for many years until they were reconciled last year. Julius said in an interview recently that some people in the industry “don’t want to see the two of them together because of peculiar gains”. He later told this writer that both of them had since made up and that the industry would soon see them doing a lot more together.
Funke Akindele Vs Odunlade Adekola
Popular actors, Odunlade Adekola and Funke Akindele are not friends and they don’t pretend about it. The alleged cause of the hostility was the appointment of Odunlade as Globacom ambassador. According to a source, Funke Akindele would have preferred another actor, Funsho Adeolu, to be made an ambassador. She was reported to have told some colleagues that Odunlade was not educated and therefore may not be able to express himself properly. Odunlade got to know about Funke’s antics and hasn’t forgiven her till today. To worsen the matter, Odunlade’s contract with Glo was not renewed while Funke remains an ambassador with the telecommunications company.
Olamide Vs Linda Ikeji
Popular rapper, Olamide doesn’t like Linda Ikeji and he’s not hiding it. Recently, the blunt rapper took to his social media account to blast the blogger for posting a story that his girlfriend was pregnant. He used so many unprintable words to describe Linda. And so much was his vituperation that many began to wonder if there wasn’t other thing behind it all. But there was.
According to a source, Olamide had accused Linda of not lending any form of support to his career on her popular blog. He was said to have complained bitterly to a close friend of the blogger. Yet, she did not do anything about it. Since then, both Olamide and Linda have not been on speaking terms.
Monalisa Chindah Vs Rita Dominic
Not many knew that Rita Dominic, Monalisa Chinda and Genevieve Nnaji used to live together. That was when the actresses developed a strong friendship that was nurtured for several years. But the once bosom friends are no longer chubby. Things have gotten so bad that Rita and Monalisa don’t see eye to eye again. Though, Genevieve has made up with Monalisa, the cause of the hostility, the three friends are not telling anyone. However, after Monalisa’s marriage crashed, she made up with Genevieve, but Rita was not committed to a reunion, apparently still hurting from whatever might have caused the hostility.
Tonto Dike Vs Ini Edo
Tonto Dike needs no introduction in the entertainment industry, as she is known for her controversial rant and ‘ready-to-attack’ attitude. No doubt, she is talented and beautiful. Recently, Tonto got into a near battle with another screen goddess, Ini Edo.
No one could say what caused the fight but Tonto went for Ini’s jugular on twitter, calling her an “old cargo” when they were both nominated for the Future Awards.
Though, Tonto won the award, Ini Edo refused to respond to her tweets.
K1 Vs Obesere
The animosity between the two fuji musicians is legendary. King Wasiu Ayinde popularly known as K1 de Ultimate believes that Obsesere, a fellow fuji singer, has been disrespectful and is always too quick to throw a jibe at him. Both have sung several hate songs against each other, but some believe K1 is having the upper hand. When K1 sang ‘Eyin Mama Esempe’ (elderly women slow down), Obesere accused him in a song of being disrespectful to women. Though, the two have simmered down, the hostility most definitely continues.
Iyanya Vs Yvonne Nelson
Iyanya’s hit song, ‘All I Want Is Your Waist’ was not only inspired by his love affair with the beautiful Ghanaian actress cum producer, Yvonne Nelson, but it also spewed up hot details about their relationship that ended after she allegedly caught him cheating on her. Iyanya had denied being in any kind of relationship with Yvonne until she released pictures to prove otherwise. The actress told everyone who cared to listen how much she loved him and how he broke her heart. But it seems Iyanya on the other hand just wanted Yvonne’s ‘waist’. They obviously wanted two different things.
Nse Ikpe Etim vs Emem Isong
They were bosom friends and business partners but the love they once shared has turned into another thing. Emem, who featured Nse in her movie, Reloaded (a film that re-launched Nse’s career), is angry that the actress has been going around spreading negative tales and talking down on her works. Emem sent Nse an angry mail, which she also responded to with anger, and till date they are sworn enemies. Now, it may take long before movie fans see Nse in Emem’s production.
Mercy Johnson Vs Tonto Dike
Young and daring, Tonto was always quick to call out Mercy Johnson negatively. But recently, she got it wrong when she slammed Mercy for returning to location too soon, six months after giving birth to her daughter, Purity. Tonto alluded that Mercy’s husband must be incapable of taking care of her. Mercy did not say a word but her fans went for Tonto’s jugular, and not a few people believed Tonto went too far. Rather than apologise, Tonto denied ever making reference to Mercy. Today, both actresses are not on speaking terms.
Seun Kuti Vs Flavour
Seun, son of Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti recently took a subtle swipe at Afropop star, Flavour on twitter over his emergence as the Best Live Act at this year’s MTV Africa Music Awards. While claiming that he has done 66 live shows this year alone, Seun insinuated that Flavour did not deserve to win such an award. Though, Flavour refused to dignify the Afrobeat musician with a response, a source confirmed that they are not the best of friends.
Cassper NyovestCassper Nyovest
MTV Base came under the spotlight earlier this month when it put out the top 20 Naija songs of all time (Click here for the list), the buzz was so much we didn’t pay attention to its listing of the hottest rappers and MCs in the land. But we finally set our eyes on it. Check out MTV Listing

1. Cassper Nyovest
Hits in the past year: “Doc Shebeleza”, “Gusheshe”, “Phumakim”.
The 23 year-old rapper might be beefing with AKA, but what we are more interested in are the hot singalong tracks he keeps dropping. From “Gusheshe” to “Doc Shebeleza” all the way to the current hit “Phumakim”, it’s really hard not bumping to his melodic rhymes.

Hits in the past year: “Caracara”, “Mission Statement”.
K.O’s second solo single “Caracara” has proved that for him making hits is standard procedure with or without his fellow band Teargas. If “Caracara” is anything to go by, we simply can’t wait to hear his full album due out later this year.
Kayswitch, Wizkid, Olamide
Kayswitch, Wizkid, Olamide
Wizkid came under heavy criticism from his colleagues headlined by former producer Samklef and budding singer Saeon. Samklef had questions over Wizkid’s personality while Saeon claimed Wizkid charged her excessive sum of N1.5million for a feature and refused to promote her song… Afteral Wizkid said he doesn’t charge for collaborations.
A fan asked Olamide how much he (Wiz) charged for their 2011 collaboration ‘Omo To Shan’, Olamide responded “He did it for free .. Let my nigga b great”. While this may be the true, it might also be an attempt by Olamide to help protect his friend Wizkid from more criticism.

Alaafin
Talk about a traditional ruler that has been making headlines for his lavish lifestyle and his choice of wives everywhere he goes, then you’re definitely talking about the Alaafin of Oyo. While many youths might not fancy having more than one wives, Olamide has come out to say he wants to be like the Alaafin while he shared the photo above of the traditional ruler via his instagram page.
Well, Olamide is at the top of his game and we know he has choice women around him, marrying more than one doesn’t seem like it would be a problem for the indigenous rapper. Olamide would be dropping his 4th album next month and we promise to bring you exclusive material from the album real soon, just keep it locked on your favorite blog djoraclemix.blogspot.com
