The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Friday announced suspension of registration for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME).
Registrar, Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Is’haq Oloyede
The ongoing registration for the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, has been suspended for 52 hours by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Abuja on Friday.

The Registrar/Chief Executive of JAMB, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, who made the announcement at a press briefing in Abuja, said the decision was aimed at preventing any disruption during the conduct of the UTME mock examinations scheduled for Saturday.

The examination body, which put the suspension hour between 8:00pm on April 7 (Friday) and 12:00am on April 10 (Monday), said one million candidates have registered for the exam so far.

He said candidates could also go to banks, NIPOST, Interswitch or Remita to procure PINs for registration on Monday, adding that there will be no sale of forms, registration and biometric capturing at the various centres in which the mock examinations would take place.

Read full statement below:

NO REGISTRATION SATURDAY 8TH APRIL 2017

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) wishes to again assure Nigerians especially the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) candidates and their parents that all hands are on deck to ensure the smooth conduct of this year’s UTME exercise.

We want to reiterate that the interest of the candidates is foremost to the Board and there is no need for any apprehension regarding the purchase of forms and registration for the examinations. It is our commitment as a responsive and responsible body to ensure that no willing candidate is left out and if there is a need to extend the registration deadline, the needful will be done.

Meanwhile, Saturday April 8th , 2017 has been set aside for the Mock UTME. To seamlessly achieve this, the Board has SUSPENDED all activities relating to the registration exercise in ANY CBT centre from 8pm today being Friday 7th of April, 2017 and to resume on Monday 10th of April, 2017.

This is to notify the candidates and the concerned stakeholders that there will be no sale of forms, registration and biometric capturing at the various centres in which the Mock Examinations are taking place.

This however does not preclude any candidate from going to Banks, NIPOST, interswitch or Remita to procure pins for registration on Monday. This is to prevent any disruption of the process and conduct of the mock examination.

The Mock Examinations for interested candidates taking place Saturday 8th April, 2017 is intended to familiarize our candidates with the CBT systems and generally forecast the challenges that may be faced ahead in order to proactively address them. It is just a rehearsal for us and candidates who want to experience the situation to expect during the actual examinations.

Therefore, the sale of forms, registration and biometrics at CBT Centres are to be suspended from 8:00 p.m. today till Monday, April 10, 2017. This notice is for the strict adherence of our officers and partners throughout the Federation.

While wishing the candidates and officials participating in the examination a successful mock exercise, we once again re-assure the candidates that there is no need for worry or anxiety. The next one week we believe is sufficient to capture the remaining candidates as about 1,000,000 applicants have successful registered.

However, as stated earlier, no one will be left behind as the deadline may be extended if there are applicants who do not succeed at registering due to circumstances beyond their control.

The Board sincerely regrets all inconveniences and state it resolved to work tirelessly to change the fortune of education in Nigerian.

Signed,
Prof. Is-haq O. Oloyede, OFR, FNAL
Registrar, JAMB

Self acclaimed Omo Baba Olowo and popular Nigerian superstar singer, Davido, could be facing a 2-year prison sentence after he was indicted in a dud cheque scandal.
Davido

Nigerian singer, David Adeleke, better known as Davido, is in a fresh scandal. This time, the popular singer allegedly issued a dud cheque to an auto dealer for the purpose of paying the sum of N7.4million as a balance for a Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 he purchased.

Documents exclusively obtained by SaharaReporters showed that the auto dealer, Mr. Anekwu Chika Valentine of Prestige Autonet Limited, has already contracted a Lagos-law firm to assist him to recover the debt.

A letter of instruction addressed to the law firm of W.K Shittu and Co., stated that the law firm will take 10 per cent of the sum owed by Davido if it is recovered.

On February 10, Davido issued two Zenith Bank (account number 100424****) cheques of N10million and N1.4million respectively. However, the latter, which apparently was to pay a part of the N7.4million was not honoured by Zenith Bank, where the auto dealer is also a customer.

Giving a did cheque is a criminal offense punishable by a two-year jail term. Davido was recently in the news, with a report alleging that another woman has had a baby for him. However, he denied the reports.

Here are the documents…

The Nigerian leader of Fulani descent had already spent 49 days in London in what has been mocked to be a ‘medical exile’. Buhari returned to Nigeria on the 10th of March, 2017 and admitted he would be leaving for the UK to continue his treatment in due time.

Some eagle-eyed Nigerians yesterday, commented on the frail look of Buhari while presenting his economic blueprint alongside other executives and legislators. The President’s faint voice while reading a prepared speech raised concerns about the state of his health.

Some ‘Yahoo-yahoo’ boys have been arrested by the police during a botched armed robbery operation in Lagos state.

Chukwuemeka Egbemude said his dad warned him

One of the four suspects arrested by the operatives of Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command for tricking expensive phone sellers to desolate locations and robbing them afterwards has confessed.

Chukwuemeka Egbemude has said his father warned him not to use his house as a base for cyber crime. The 22-year-old 200 level drop out of North American University, Cotonu, Benin Republic was arrested on Wednesday last week in company of three other accomplices, who were fingered in the shooting of a police officer, who attempted to arrest them in one of their botched robbery operations

The gang leader, Wilfred Ehis, a Chemical Engineering graduate of University of Benin, Benin City had in his confessional statement to police stated that his task as the leader of the group was to source for expensive phone sellers on online platforms, pose as a lawyer, order for expensive phones and accessories before waylaying the delivery man and rob him of the consignment at a designated location.

Egbemude, confessed to the police that all he did since dropping out of school was to pick fraud items for online fraudsters as well as put Ehis through on how to carry out online fraud.

He added that he had been lodging from one hotel and the other along with Ehis around LASU – Igando area because his father barred he and his elder brother from using his residence for as centre for online fraud.

According to him “I dropped out of school not because I wasn’t brilliant but for my inability to pay my school fees. And, since I returned to Nigeria, I started online fraud and picking fraud items for online fraudsters in and out of Nigeria”

The first picking job was for myself in 2016. Later, I did another job for a “yahoo boy” which fetched me $400. I have been into online fraud before I entered school in 2011”.

He continued “I have done a lot of transaction for boys including those that involved me travelling out of the country. Everybody in the neighbourhood (Afolabi Bus Stop, LASU – Isheri Road) knows the kind of job that I do.

I also help “yahoo boys” to pick money, expensive wristwatches and rings. I go to bank to pick up the money for them and I get my 10% or 15% commission on every transaction. I have helped more than 50 boys doing that kind of transaction”.

“My father got to know that I was into online fraud because he sees me carrying laptops and heard me whenever I make calls to my victims and trying to sound like an American.

"He called me and told me point blank that, I should never in my life use his residence for such business. Since 2015, I have been moving with Ehis, lodging from one hotel to the other in LASU – Igando Area”, he added.

Sources disclosed that apart from being a very close associate of the ring leader of the gang, Egbemude is always with Ehis all the time and he had dealings with Nurudeen, alias Onyaebo, the notorious hit man of the group.

According to Wilfred Ehis, Nurudeen has the two guns used by the gang for their operations, and that he sneaked into Lagos through the creeks of Ogun whenever they have operations.

Two of the five victims of the group’s robbery, who identified themselves as Oluwaseyi Sanwo – Sunday and Alabede Habib on interview said that the group used okada for their operations with two guns.

They added that Iyana school Bus Stop, along LASU – Iba Road have been areas where they lured three of them to before dispossessing them of those consignments Ehis posing as Barrister Deji ordered for.

The suspect along with the gang leader, Wilfred Ehis and two others, Bright Eloho, 24 and Olanrewaju Kamilu, 33 has been transferred to Special Anti – Robbery Squad, Ikeja, Lagos for further investigations.
The Petroleum Tanker Drivers arm of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has suspended its ongoing strike as NNPC approves an increase of tanker drivers’ bridging allowance.
Officials at the meeting

The President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government, has on Monday, March 3, announced the immediate increment of the bridging cost allowance (an allowance paid to marketers for the transportation of petroleum products from the storage depots to retail outlets across Nigeria) payable to petroleum product marketers.

While speaking at the opening of a meeting between NNPC management and leaders of the Petroleum Tankers Drivers, the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Maikanti Baru, said the allowance was raised from the current N6.20 per litre to N7.20 with immediate effect.

Revealing further in Abuja in his opening remarks during the meeting with PTD –  a section of the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, Maikanti said the decision to raise the bridging cost was a goodwill gesture by the federal government to demonstrate its commitment to resolve all issues affecting their smooth operations.

“I’m happy to announce to you that the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, has just approved the increase of bridging cost allowance from N6.20k to N7.20k.

“This is a good platform for you all to discuss the issues. We expect that with this, you will call off the strike immediately,” Mr. Maikanti told the oil workers.

“I plead with you to ensure that your discussions should be guided by national and not personal interest,” he added.

The Petroleum Tanker Drivers arm of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has also suspended its ongoing strike.

The NUPENG President, Igwe Achese, made the announcement after the extensive meeting between the group and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

The tanker drivers had commenced an industrial action earlier on Monday to press home their demand for improved welfare.

Achese, who announced over the weekend that members of the union would withdraw their services, raised concerns that Nigerians may experience another round of fuel supply crisis.

He noted that the grouse of the drivers are poor working conditions and welfare package among others. The NUPENG President said the Federal Government has ignored several appeals by the union to help improve the welfare of the drivers.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of the National Association of Transport Owners, NARTO, the employers of the drivers, that the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, has already approved the increment.
